There appear to be 6 variants of the card, some of which are backward compatible. Differences between the variants are generally levels of security (encryption methods) and cost. The thing that makes MIFARE interesting is that it's a widely used in for transit cards like ORCA. All MIFARE cards should run at 13.56 MHz. Clipper cards do not appear to be MIFARE but they do operate at 13.56Mhz and are also ISO 14443. ## ORCA The [ORCA](https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/ORCA_Card) card is a MIFARE DESFire card used in the Seattle/Puget Sound region.
